DOG OWNERSHIP AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS All dogs over the age of four months must be licensed annually with the municipality. Licences cost $15 for spayed or neutered dogs and $30 otherwise, payable at the municipal office by January 31 each year. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required at the time of licensing. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 2 metres when off the owner's property, except within the designated off-leash dog park at Centennial Park. Owners must immediately remove and dispose of excrement left by their dog on any public or private property. A dog that barks, howls or whines excessively so as to disturb neighbours may be declared a nuisance. Complaints are investigated by the animal control officer. Fines for unlicensed dogs, leash violations, or nuisance behaviour range from $75 to $500. Lost dogs are held at the municipal pound for 72 hours. Unclaimed dogs may be adopted out. Pound release fees are $50 plus $10 per day of boarding.
